Mason Adds First Full-Time Sports Nutritionist
There have been lots of changes and additions to the Intercollegiate Athletics staff over the past year and one of the big changes has been the creation of The Center for Sports Performance. Combining sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition and sports psychology, The Center for Sports Performance’s goal is to encompass every aspect of Mason student-athlete’s performance.
Joining the staff at Mason today is Theresa Logan, the department’s first full-time Sports Nutritionist. Theresa comes to Mason from Davidson where she was Director of Campus Health Wellness and Sports Dietitian.
“The biggest challenge is convincing athletes that real food works,” Logan said. “Making a commitment to making the best food choices. Supplements may work as a temporary fix but it is not something that can be continued, is permissible or is a healthy lifestyle choice.”
Monday was also the 35th Annual Patriot Club Fall Golf Outing. The event is held every year to raise money for the Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund and this year it was held at Westfields Golf Club. In just a few weeks, the Mason Baseball team will hold its 10th Annual Golf Classic as it looks to raise money for its program. That event will be held on October 1 at South Riding Golf Club.
